Remember this? Came up on playing in the offices today. Good times.
Illy "Hollertronix" era, Diplo remix of TV On The Radio - "Staring At The Sun" x Dead Prez - "Hell Yeah"
Some Heroes actually first discovered TV On The Radio in early 2004, via CNet's Download.com music section. It was kind of an amazing place back then to tap into the unheard world of small indie artists. T-Radd (most of the original songs are not findable..), Atomic Puppy (can't find a music link at all), Ghetto Girl, many others I can't remember right now & this very weird looking crew from Brooklyn, NY (Brooklyn? What musicians were there or came from there besides Biggie? --- obviously this is in jest...but in 2003, vs. in 2013...ha!)... with a gem of a song called "Staring at the Sun", and a cover of The Pixies', "Mr. Grieves". They did well and it was most deserved.
TV On The Radio - Mr. Grieves (click below left to play...)
This one was a classic as well...
BTW...the original video for Dead Prez' "Hell Yeah" is on some hard shit...

WATCH THIS : UNSEEN BIGGIE SMALLS MINI DOC.

Really, hit play on this video..
This is a rarely-seen mini-profile on Christopher Wallace from the UK show, Diary On Passengers, in which The Black Frank White chops it up about supporting Junior M.A.F.I.A., with then-wife Faith Evans, and allows the world some insight into his relationship with his Mother. Some realness.
Seriously, just chill out for 14 minutes and 10 seconds. Then peep some tracks after that...

BAD: NO MORE DAS RACIST. GOOD: THEIR VIDEO.

This new little video from OG Hero fave [and recently broken up(!!??)] crew Das Racist is one of the best videos we've seen in a wiggity while.
Ok, yes its definitely official. DR as a crew/band/album making group is no more...
Glad I got to see the dudes perform before this split... Seems as though it was bound to happen, though they never recorded their one album agreed to in a deal with Sony, signed in July. Ah well, time will tell... until then... this video is just amazing enough to not really care...
Holler homies. Be well.
Also, why not check the fuck out of this blazing remix of the track from ETC(!)ETC(!)...

BADA$$.

Damn. Shit is real in the field. Blog time falls to the wayside.
Real NY hip-hip will always make us wake up over here at the Hero. NYC hip-hop mixtapes WERE 1999 in my world, and we are loving the resurgence of true music inspired by what hip-hop was back then, with Action Bronson channeling Ghostface at his dirtiest, and now, Joey Bada$$ and his homie Capital STEEZE recalling Mobb Deep who got nuff shots to share fa all doze...
Odd Future who? A$AP what? Rocky is killin it, can't say we fully down with the OF, but they doin they thing. But seriously though, this crew (Pro Era) & this dude (who's freshly signed to Cinematic Music Group/RED/Sony) are really something to be hyped on. And the mixtape is called 1999. Harkening back...

Also, just dropped, is Rejex, another mixtape/collection of tracks that didn't make 1999, as well as some older jams...

YOU LIKE HIP-HOP. RIGHT?

Ok, then you know these guys already.
Right?
Weeeeelllll, if you 'like hip-hop', which EVERYBODY does now, right? You should.
I mean I get 'knowledge' dropped on me about things like how Drake & Young Money represent everything that's 'so awesome' about the genre these days (Weezy and Minaj excluded, I'm laughing), how Ricky Rose' is the best thing going right now (srsly?), and how because you know who Bel-Biv-Devoe is, you 'grew up raised on 80's and 90's hip hop' (um, nah) more than I can explain to you. It seems now days even your friends Mom wanna tell you who's hot in the street.
I don't know bout all that, but I DO know that if you REALLY REALLY dig the really realness, you will Sit Down, Man, Shut Up, Dude, and listen.
This is no debut, basement produced, ghetto ass mixtape. Nah, this is a Diplo/Boy-1da/Teengirl Fantasy/Chairlift/Dame Grease produced, Despot(!!!)/The Very Best/Roc Marciano/El-P/Quincy Jones/Jay-Z (haha) featuring, Mishka/Mad Decent sponsored banger.
Ok, resume akkin like you know...I'm lookin fresh, off to get my wedding party on.
Oh yeah, its not racist.

Das Racist - All Tan Everything f. Jay-Z
Das Racist - hahahahaha jk? (produced by Boi-1da)
Das Racist - Rooftop f. Despot (produced by Dame Grease)
