THE FORMER HOOD. K.I.M.

Photobucket

Semi appropriate that this video from my homie Malkovich drops today.

The UPH offices happen to have to drop out of Palms. Unfortunately in a bit of an unceremonious and unfun way. What did you think makes us the 'unsung' hero? Keepin' it movin my friends, K. I. muthafukin M.

Malk be doin' that very same...

Just to reinforce the point...the O.G.

MIXTAPE MONDAY.

Photobucket
This weekend was not unlike the baked butter fish piece I had at a secret sushi spot Thursday round sundown. Savorrrrrr.
Food, recording, travels, film, family, modernism (? ha.), fine deli meats, birthday shenanigans, sun, water, grills (& only the finest dirt dogs), refreshing libations, music, and some fuzzzzz...
...it was almost like I came to as I drifted in and out of sleep to this dreamily lovely mix by Metschä via the one and only MIXTAPE MIXTAPE!!! Sunday evening...

It made sense I guess, b/c as MM says :
... (this mix) pretty much typifies what MM is all about. Music without boundaries. LOVE with a capital L. Rainbows and puppies. You get the picture. It’s from our man METSCHA, who hails from Portugal and craftily mixes together tracks by Domenico Scarlatti (yep, that Scarlatti), BEACH HOUSE and Isaac Hayes. It’s on some wild shit.
This one's got me good... kind of an instant classic simply due to the context in which I enjoyed it first...

And opposite spectrum like, of course I had to up this #killing dubstep mix from Quickie Mart I've been bumping the past couple weeks... I was introduced to Quickie's tracks through Malkovich ... who I was introduced to through Saints & Sinners ... which closed its doors this week after one last weekend in Palms...

It Just Don't Stop (mix) by Quickie Mart

The mix features a couple of remixes by QM ... including this banguh of Freddie Gibbs' "National Anthem (Fuck The World) "

and as Metschä would like to remind us...sharing is love...

HISTORY REPEATS; HE'S GETTING ARTSY. & ITS ALL FREE.

Photobucket
The homie from around the way, Malkovich, stays doin it large when it comes to the homegrown Los Angeles hip-hop. Remember?? Well he's serving up a fresh one.

On top of this, he's officially kicking off his role TOMORROW as Ayatollah Presley by simultaneously curating a buzz worthy art show, shooting a new video (for above single, "Wipeout"), and playing host to an open bar equipped (open bar dude!) party for young visionaries and luminaries of the greater Los Angeles area. And you can be invited.

From his Facebook:
Saturday night's release party is also a video shoot for "Wipeout" produced by ABCDEFG aka Chuck Chilla... I'll get you drunk AND famous. For free. R&R Gallery, 929 E. 2nd St., downtown LA.
Peep the vid footy...

What's that expression? "If we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.." Something like that.

The exhibit involved is quite a relevant (in terms of subject matter, media, & overall coolness) collection of photographs from Iran taken in the period just before the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Its an amazing glimpse into life prior to the turmoil (which was not made much easier by the U.S.) that was the overthrow of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Prizes will be awarded to the best Ayatollah Presley look alike (this is apparently true, see below) and admission to the event is free as long as you are rocking some ill deadstock 1979 hi-tops to commemorate (this is not true, its just free anyway).

LOCAL UNDERGROUND. L.A. x N.Y. x N.O.

Photobucket

Man these tracks got me opin. Hoes no mo.

New shit from the homie and fellow Palms resident Malkovich...

Dude & the crew's jams are basically always on some serious fire, and some serious hip hop shit. None of that, whatever you call that other stuff.

Here he go teaming up w/ rhymer & producer/DJ team Gotham Green & Quickie Mart for "Malk & Green" from the duo's album The Haze Diaries, Vol. 3, which rocked out the CMJ charts, and got Green a spot opening for Freddie Gibbs & Black Milk at the Journal's event beginning of this August past.

Regaaadless, keep at least one of them eyes open for all three of these guys. Malkovich, Gotham Green, and DJ Quickie Mart that is. YOU, hip hop fan, should check them all out individge style..

Clean video...firrre beat...

And this is his newest release w/ the big OG homie, Prince Po from Orgainzed Konfusion...cheah.

Also check these two from Gotham Green, first w/ locally managed (ha) Freddie Gibbs, and then with another L.A. Cali repper, El Prez.

What's dead?

Finally, lets smooth out w/ Quickie Mart's N.O.funk & soul mix...he's bidding for a Treme cameo looks like...
