NEW KID. MAC DEMARCO.

Recently we've been quite taken with one Mac Demarco, and his band of ruffians hailing from Montréal, Quebec, Canada. First came a 12" called Rock n' Roll Nightclub and some other tracks online, then a quick signing with Captured Tracks, a mysteriously up-then-gone video for "Only You", some whispers about shows @ SXSW, some great tunes, and this (posted at the end) live performance by Pitchfork.

Lots of things. Lots of music. Lots of fun you guys.

Let's just say there seem to be lots of good things to come from the young lad. Here's some tunes to bang to.

He also likes to smoke.

ROM COM. BY TROUBLES.

Photobucket
Big Troubles have two songs for play on their bandcamp page.

This fact was brought to our attention today by a lovely lady who came through the cavernous big room for a "session" of putting "music" in "places". We all ended up calling it "placement". Word is she's pretty good at it.

NOTHINGS THAT ARE SWEET.

Photobucket
The Sounds of Sweet Nothing have 2 records under their belts. The UK's Unknown Mortal Orchestra's now sold out, self-titled 7" EP, and the new Distressor EP from S.F. band Whirl.

Photobucket
The first is a surfy, lo-fi rocker with plenty of Brit feel. Looking forward to more from these lads, and hopefully checking them out @ The Troubadour on March 11 with Starfucker (STRFKR)...should be good times. "How Can U Luv Me" is def my fave so far...the whole EP is nicely melodic, a bit soulful, and just all around fun shit.

Photobucket
The second EP has a definite 'wall of sound' feel. Coming in at just under 25 min, it reminds me strongly of My Bloody Valentine, with huge washed out verb, plenty of big dramatic chord changes. Distressor EP is out April 7 on The Sounds of Sweet Nothing.

Oh and here's a little Starfucker nugget....

EL OH ELEVEN.

Photobucket
Sticking with a couple rando artists to watch in the oh eleven...the guys this time.

Ok and here's some dudes....

Charles Bradley is 62 and has been waiting for his album to drop forever. Not really, but kinda. Well, now it is. And he's down with the Menahan Street Band, which makes everything pretty right on in my mind.

Diamond Rings doing big tings.

Of course U-Tern is NOT a newcomer, and has been holdin it down up in my former home of Van City for years. Holler at One Day Later and ODL Radio. Skills. His new project is called Oliver, and is a collabo w/ the homie Oligee (Pulse Recordings) from L.A.! ... and they have more on the way..

Not new either!!! Ducktails enjoyed a large Hero post on the OLD blog...this NJ crew is on some super sun drenched fuzzy surf rock...they have been riding the underground wave, and may creep up into a larger scale this year...dig.

THURSDAY FUZZ FALSETTO.

It takes me forever and ever to post things. One day we'll have a staff of like, 5 or something and there will be shit scrolling across your news ticker and shit from us.

Oh, so SoundCloud, solid, quick, easy, DMCA friendly, and usually easy to find what I want. Downside is that I can't always do it (see YouTube 'video' below). I'm just not ready to delete my blog again anytime soon, mostly because I just don't have much time to put into it right now! @nd I'd like it to still be around when, well, maybe I do.

These two albums, as whole pieces, are pretty great mellow times, being my pick of the pair. Two tracks from each.

I think I posted Woods on the old blog. Two from At Echo Lake.

Its fuzzy, and falsetto, and kinda funny, but its pretty engaging and can even be heart wrenching. If you will that is.

Oh, and to my Portland MAINE fam, the guys play the homeland, in a venue I love, SPACE Gallery on September 15! And for my Vermontskis, the next day in Winooski @ The Monkey House!

And Avi Buffalo. What can I say? I love some hard ass music, but I'm a sucker for some mellow ass falsetto rock. I think they are pretty big in the underworld. Heh. Anyone catch em @ Hollywood Bowl? I think they opened for...I can't remember. Sure it was good picnic and wine times.

No, I know they have a good following, and I dig the almost totally not weird/weirdness of all of their tracks.

Two from the self titled LP...Avi Buffalo.
